A photography  business jourey

About Seona
Hey, I’m Seona, a photographer, trainer based in Glasgow. I’m mostly a newborn and family photographer, but portraits in general are my thing. In 2019 I added the newborn photography training aspect to my business and thought that would be as far as I went with training other photographers…it was not the case!

The Early Days

I’ve been professional photographer since 2006, prior to that I studied Professional Photography and Digital imaging for 3 years…and before that….I worked in dental health settings for many years as a dental nurse and then a dental health educator!
I loved my job, I held clinics, I developed education materials and I worked all over the west coast of Scotland. However I’d always wanted to be a photographer for as long as I can remember.  In 2003 I went back to full time education. I loved every minute of it, but learned nothing about business… and in 2006 I opened my first studio.

As you probably already know, being a photographer and running a business are two completely different things…if you did know that, then you are already leaps and bounds ahead of me when I opened my first studio, but I learned fast!
Seona's training helped to shift some internal blocks I had about the value of my work

being a photographer in business

A lot of what I learned and applied to my business about the principles of business, are the same issues I still see time and time again cropping up for other photographers. I have experienced the same sticking points/problems/issues/ whatever you want to call them, so I looked at ways I could help other photographers overcome them. Whilst I was having success in my business, it was not the same for others.

The biggest complaint that I’d hear from other photographers was almost on repeat ….working long hours and for low sales…but with a fear of raising prices. It was every photographers goal that I spoke to …’to work less than they were and earn more than they were’. In addition, family time and just general time off was severely lacking. I knew I could help with that.

the training

I broke down my own IPS process and created a training workshop. This workshop uses the same principles and process that I use daily in my own business, if I was having success in my own business with this process, then surely others would too?

And it did ….
Waaahh!!! I did it 🎉 Just sold some framed wall art with my middle package!

coaching

Having trained photographers with IPS, I found I was also having 1-2-1 calls  to go over specific aspects of their business. Topics such as their revised pricing structure in more detail, or how something specific in the viewing software worked. Then during those calls I’d be asked more about business such as email systems or how to send newsletters or what was the best way to make an image collage or how did I find my clients etc. IPS was just one aspect of running a successful photography business. I then added a business coaching options. With coaching options we can work on all of that and more. You have the flexibility of booking a single call, or 6/12 months coaching options.

Before you commit to any coaching plans, its really great if we can catch up for a chat first, to make sure we are a good fit!  You can do that below - if you don't see a suitable time, drop me an email with your availability and we can arrange a date that is suitable.
